SERVICE OPTIONS

We provide in-home and/or telehealth consultation to parents, caregivers, and families with a wide variety of concerns. Any challenge that a family presents we approach with the same model: assess the challenge, develop a collaborative and individualized plan, and work together to implement the plan! Depending on your family's needs, this might look like weekly meetings where we discuss the problems, solutions and progress, or it might involve one of us being there with you throughout the entire process (kind of like Supernanny!)! Or it might fall somewhere in between where we meet frequently, but occasionally you may need in-the-moment support by phone or video conferencing technology! Our services are tailored to the needs and goals of your family.

SAFETY SKILLS

Are you worried about your child's understanding of safety? There are many situations that we don't anticipate ever happening to our children, but that we can still proactively teach them about! Proactively teaching these skills can help prevent negative outcomes in the case of a dangerous situation. Pedestrian safety, stranger awareness, self-advocacy, fire safety, internet safety, and knowing what to do when separated from your parents/group, are just some examples of the skills we can support!

COACHING ON THE BASICS OF WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

Or, in other words, why kids do what they do!

If you don't have any specific concerns or goals, we can provide general coaching on the basics of why kids do what they do - both in learning and in doing some of the things that can be hard for parents/caregivers to manage. We will discuss why behaviour occurs, how to be a behaviour detective, and the specific strategies that work for different situations (Like when a token economy might be helpful? Or how to catch more positive behaviour? Or how to help your child using language, visual supports, or other tools, when they're struggling to learn something?).

If your challenge is not listed above, please contact us for a free initial consultation to discuss how we can help! If we are unable to support the challenge you're experiencing, we probably know another professional that we can refer you to who specializes in the challenge and can help!

FAQS

WHAT DOES THE CONSULTATION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

Please reach out for a free 30- to 60-minute initial consultation to discuss your unique individual situation, as this process may look different depending on the needs and concerns of each family. In an ideal world, the process would start with an interview with you and anyone involved about your unique goals. Once we know this, we will schedule some time to observe the relevant situations (either in-person or through video conferencing software). Then, together, we will build a plan of action! We will practice together, both with and without the kids, so that we can provide you with the feedback and confidence you need to work through the plan. As you are successful in implementing the plan, we will fade ourselves out and provide you with less and less support, until we are confident that the goal set out at the beginning of the process has been met. At this time, if there is another goal you’d like to tackle, we repeat the process!

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR CONSULTATION?

Please reach out for a free 30- to 60-minute initial consultation to discuss your unique individual situation. Please do so especially if you are interested in services and are concerned about costs, as we do have a limited number of cases in which we can offer services using a sliding scale fee based on income.

Another option for families concerned about costs is to gather a group of parents/caregivers looking to learn some general skills to help with their kids across a variety of challenging situations! In these situations, parents/caregivers/families can split the costs of a multi-week workshop. In these workshops, we seek to facilitate a safe environment to ask questions and learn about strategies to support your children to learn new skills and tackle behaviour concerns!

CAN YOU OFFER CONSULTATION TO FAMILIES WHO LIVE OUTSIDE OF THE CENTRAL-NORTH VANCOUVER ISLAND AREA?

Yes! We are pleased to offer services across geographic regions through telehealth platforms, or other means when possible!
